About Me

Welcome to my first ever blog! 

My name is Brittney VanDeventer. My husband, Phil, and I live in Maryville, TN. Fun fact about me is that I'm a Navy brat. Go Navy! I was born in South Carolina, and I've lived in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Florida. Not as many cool places as other Navy brats, but Massachusetts was by far my favorite place to live. My dad retired from the military when I was in high school and I stayed there throughout college and my first six years as a professional, so I consider Jacksonville, Florida to be home.

My husband and I recently moved to Maryville, TN in October 2021 for my job at the University of Tennessee in the Tickle College of Engineering. I work in the communications department as a Web Designer-Developer. I absolutely fell in love with UT and the Knoxville area, so I decided to become a Vol. We traded the beach for the mountains, and I wouldn't have it any other way. 

I started the master's program for Strategic and Digital Communications because, while I have worked in communications for the last four years, I wanted to build a foundation in communications and have a degree to help propel me further in my career. I am a self-taught web developer, so I knew I could learn that side of things on my own. I am constantly learning and finding new things to pick up and figure out. I am excited for this Social Informatics course.
